The Team

Tece is a Senior Lecturer at the Games Department of Media Design School in Auckland.

Tece has a Master’s in Computer Engineering and currently working towards a PhD in Computer Science at University of Auckland. A teacher by day, a student by night, a sailor by weekends 🙂

“My doctoral research is focused around defining games as systems of rehabilitation. This is only one portion of my research interests among others such as games for impact and games for design for social innovation. Prior to teaching game development at Media Design School, I worked as a software engineer in defense industry in Turkey. I have been with Media Design School since 2012, have taught lots of different topics from game programming to games&humanities. Over the years, I have been mostly teaching game design, and managing the prototyping and production studios. I have an infinite curiosity for the intersection between technology and human condition. I love games, not only as a player but also as a researcher, and I believe we are only at the tip-of-the-iceberg in terms of what we can do with them.”

Rourke is a Co-founder of Skyward Studios – An independant games studio in Auckland, NZ.

Rourke has studied a variety of papers, ranging from Computer Science to Game Development. He is fueled by his desire to make fun & compelling videogames.

“After spending many years in other disciplinary work my ultimate desire to develop games won out. I now co-manage a game studio founded by myself and others who share that same passion for videogames. In addition, the opportunity to participate in something bigger than myself, through videogame research, has been a rewarding experience. I am excited to see what breakthroughs are possible with the implementation of videogames in research”
